Our sports cars are our pride and joy – and that was exactly the problem: our Ferrari and Lamborghini stand in the carport right next to our house in the Greater Berlin area, in full view of the street. The worry that someone might tamper with the vehicles at night or even steal one was always with us. On top of that came the constant parking dents: our driveway was regularly used for turning and manoeuvring – often just a few centimetres from the cars.
The parcel drivers were a particular nuisance: anyone who wants to deliver quickly reverses the van into the nearest free driveway – and that happened to be ours. More than once, a van's bumper came dangerously close to the front of our cars. Given the price of our vehicles, a single scratch quickly means damage running into four figures.
The solution: two retractable stainless steel bollards in front of the driveway
We chose two retractable bollards from Braun Antriebe, set directly at the property boundary in front of the driveway. When raised, the solid stainless steel bollards make any access impossible – no strange vehicle gets onto the property any more, whether by accident when manoeuvring or deliberately at night. The delivery van now stays on the street too: anyone who wants to reverse into the driveway sees the bollards and the LED lighting and looks for another place to turn.
Especially when it comes to theft, the bollards give us a whole new sense of security: even if someone managed to get to the vehicles – nobody drives past the bollards. The solid V4A stainless steel construction, weighing around 160 kg, reliably stops any vehicle. And the bollard locks mechanically at the top: even if someone cuts the compressed air line, it stays raised and the access remains closed.
In everyday life the bollards are completely uncomplicated: at the push of a button they lower completely into the ground within seconds, and we can drive in and out comfortably. The pneumatic drive is low-maintenance and reliable, and visually the stainless steel bollards blend discreetly into the paved driveway.
Since the installation, our sports cars have been parked more safely than ever – no dents, no manoeuvring parcel vans, no uneasy feeling at bedtime. For anyone who wants to protect high-value vehicles in the city, retractable bollards are in our view the best investment.

The project in figures
- Location: Greater Berlin area, residential area with carport directly on the street (we do not name the exact location for data protection reasons)
- Task: theft protection for two sports cars, protection against parking dents and parcel drivers reversing in
- Solution: 2 × Barrier bollard stainless steel V4A pneumatic, Ø 273 mm, approx. 160 kg, 60 cm stroke, with LED lighting
- Cost: around €3,000 per bollard – a fraction of what a single manoeuvring scrape on a Ferrari costs
- Drive: compressed air, quiet compressor in the house, no technology and no electrics in the bollard (IP69)
- Operation: at the push of a button – by radio remote control, smartphone, number plate recognition or smart home
Why retractable bollards as theft protection for sports cars?
Alarm systems, GPS trackers and steering wheel locks help once the car is already being moved. A bollard prevents it from getting off the property in the first place. Thieves who pull up with a van to load the vehicle find the way blocked – and a 160 kg stainless steel bollard can neither be driven around nor pushed aside. With Braun Antriebe, the system can also be set so that the bollard stays up during a power failure: anyone who switches off the fuse in the house or cuts the line does not open the access.
Bollards against parcel drivers and parking dents in the driveway
Many homeowners in Berlin and other cities know the problem: their own driveway is the only free space on the street, so people turn in it, stop briefly and reverse in. A retractable bollard at the property boundary turns it into a visible barrier within seconds – and when you come home yourself, it disappears into the ground at the push of a button. The access can be released at any time for visitors or tradespeople.
